The World's number-one ranked eater proved he is worthy of that position with a record shattering performance at the Krystal Square Off World Championship. Takeru Kobayashi ate 97 Krystals in eight minutes to claim his third consecutive Krystal Championship.

Kobayashi's mark was 30 Krystals better than his winning total in 2005 and 28 better than the World Record he set in 2004.

Kobayashi was pushed throughout the contest by secon-place finisher Joey Chestnut, who put down 91 Krystals during the contest. In doing so Chestnut set a new American Record. The previous record was 62 Krystals, shared by Chestnut and Sonya Thomas.
