An injured jaw forced three time defending Champion Takeru Kobayshi to miss the 2007 Square Off, leaving the door wide open for a new World Champion. The door was open, and Joey Chestnut charged right through it.
Chestnut became the first person in history to eat over 100 Krystals, eating 103 in eight minutes to claim the Championship belt. Chestnut's total sparked much debate about how many a healthy Kobayashi would have eaten.
Not to be overshadowed by Chestnut's feat, Humble Bob Shoudt rose to the occasion and ate 95 Krystals to finish second, narrowly edging out Pat Bertoletti's 94 Krystals. Shoudt's total is particularly impressive considering that it was an improvement of 26 Krystals over his qualifying total.
